Hi my first post,

First of all I’d just like to say: Thanks E-D for all the fabulous encodes you've provided everyone with, and best regards to the team.

I usually just hang around your irc channel once in a while but decided to register and share a program I made to help keep track of updates on E-D's
releases web page, thought I'd share it with whomever’s interested. This hasn't been tested on any other PC yet, so email me if you I have any problems.

Requires .Net Framework 3.5 (I know quite a few people haven't updated so there's not much I can do since 2.0 was missing some needed functions.)

cheers.

[EDIT] It doesn't bother me if you want to post your opinion for this application in the thread, but in future please direct any bugs to the email I provided, I think showing a little courtesy to the moderators here would be appropriate.

First of all I provided a contact email address for bug reports for a reason (as in I don't want to bother the mods here too much)

Secondly,
What OS are you using?, I forgot to mention that I'm using XPpro not that it should matter too much, although I'd hate to see how vista or win7 would react with all their permission restrictions.
And what version of .NET Framework do you have installed? have you installed the latest .NET service pack?
A few PC specs might help... although if you can understand how .NET operates, then this shouldn't matter too much.

Like where?
(I'm sure you can provide an example if it crashes in that many places, and how about you press the details button on the dialogbox that throws the exception and email me a copy of the error report)

Like what?
(maybe a screenshot might help)

I've even tried this application using VirtualPC, with a stock hardware setup and didn't encounter not one problem, so you can see why I find it hard to believe that you're encountering that many errors.

I was going to post here a couple nights ago, but my internet had other ideas.

Anyway, gave this a go, and it's not a bad little application. One idea you might want to do is possibly on the drop down list, be able to click the box or the arrow once to pull down the menu or something, rather than clicking like 2-3 times just to get the menu to come up. Little annoying on my end, but otherwise a good application to have.

Thanks TwinShadow for the feedback!

I would really appreciate feedback from others, even if you aren't experiencing crashes or who "installed -> tried it -> then uninstalled it", at least I would get some relief as to whether the program is functional or not.

Yeah I notice that too but didn't pay too much attention since it had low priority, but thinking about it now and trying to do something about it may introduce more problems, here's the procedure:
1st click: cell is selected.
2nd click: dropdown menu is activated.
As you can see if 1st click is skipped/trapped then every time you tab or select the cell it would automatically open the menu, even if that wasn't your intention. The 3rd click should never be needed but does occasionally happen when you click the cell too quickly (it probably gets interpreted as a double-click). I'll look into it a bit more later on.

So I gather you didn't encounter any of this?: "crashes all over the place, and weird errors when your using the search option :)", I had a feeling vi0 was just trolling and had other motives.

Regarding your IRC comment:
Quote:
<TwinShadow> Not bad, though the encodes.html isn't always up-to-date XP

I was thinking (only for a split second mind you :)) of possibly trying to parse the irc channel's header string to get more recent updates, but soon realized that that string has no real format which would make that road impossible, not to mention it's more than likely you'd miss some recent updates unless you're logged into irc 24/7. So I just don't see any real solution for gathering real time announcements, If you or anyone else can come up with any ideas I'd be more than happy to look into it!

The cell selection was just something that was a small nuisance for me, but oh well, I can live with it.

As far as the crashing issue is going, no, I didn't get any. Worked just fine far as I know. I didn't test every little detail in it, but works for the most part.

My desktop: OS: Windows XP Professional SP3, CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz, Video: ATI Radeon HD3870. Pretty much the necessary info, besides the 2 GB of DDR2 RAM I have.

I was thinking of trying the little program on my laptop which runs Linux just to for the laughs if it works or not. XD Probably not, Wine can't seem to emulate everything anyway...

It's likely the other person is using some other Windows OS like 98, 2000, Vista, or hell, even Windows 7. But, as I don't have any of those OS's, I can't find out myself, nor do I care for anything other than XP at the moment.

For real-time updates, good question. I'm usually on the IRC often one way or another, but I don't know of any particular good way to really keep up-to-date with the releases besides manually adding in the changes when needed or something.

Be my guest, but don't go out on a limb for my sake. BTW I can't remember the last time I had a Linux box, must be ~6yrs, I'd still have it if it wasn't for the fact that HDD's and me don't get along, but at around the same time I changed to Western Digital and haven't had any failures yet (knock's on wood).

I really don't care, I offered to help but they didn't get back, and not to mention their lousy attitude.
Our setups aren't that different (wait just checked your V/C specs let me stand corrected, you're way in front unless I read the wrong page?) - same cpu except 2.66GHz, Nvidia geforce 8800gts, 4GB RAM (yeah I know that's overkill but they where cheap at the time xD), 500GB HDD/System, 2x1TB HDD/Data, 2x1TB HDD/Backup-Offline (all Western Digital, did I mention I'm on good terms with WD :-p however still slightly paranoid)

About that, you may not have realized but I intentionally disable editing on all columns except for two (Collection/Comments), the reason is simple, the program detects changes in all columns on E-D's webpage, therefore even if you manually loaded the database into say MS-Access and modified the protected columns my program will revert those changes made manually back to the version used online when you perform an update. Your only option would be to use the comment field to make a note (Swooosh, shot down again lol, sorry). On the other hand adding new titles isn't a problem, however you'd have to be an esper to know the exact wording E-D would be using when they eventually added it to the encodes.html or you'll end up with two similar rows. I'm sure you would have figured all that out by yourself eventually, so sorry for the drawn out explanation.

Anyway it's not like this program was meant for stock market updates. It would have been nice to cater for other peoples needs but I personally only check for updates every 2-4 weeks, so you addicts that need a quick-fix of wholesome anime will just need to stay locked-in on irc.
